UNIT 6 - Тексты для аудирования к учебнику
Step 1
Аудиозапись № 102 к заданию 1
Text 1. Our planet is our home. There are about six billion people living on it. Everyone has their own problems but there is one problem important for all people — how to save our planet. Nowadays we understand that no country and no government can do it in isolation. If we want to be successful, we have to cooperate with each other. That is why there are more and more international ecological organizations in different countries. The number of their members is growing. Scientists from all over the world discuss important ecological problems at their meetings and conferences. We must remember that the air, the water and the land on this planet are all that we have and we must do what we can to save them for the future.
Text 2. Our planet is our home. We want it to be a happy and healthy place for ourselves, our children and our children’s children. Like everything living and growing on the Earth, we, people, are part of nature. We are busy trying to change the world, make it more comfortable for living. At the same time we often forget that our environment influences us as it influences plants and animals. Living in a polluted environment doesn’t make us any healthier. Pollution, stresses, bad food, much work influence modern people a lot. It is time to think about what will happen to us.
Step 3
Аудиозапись № 106 к заданию 1
a) What do I do? I just eat as many oranges as I can for the vitamin C, and take a lot of hot drinks: tea with lemon or hot milk with honey. I try not to go outdoors and if I have a high temperature, I stay in bed.
b) I simply say to myself “I am going to sleep and I’m going to have a wonderful long sleep.” If it doesn’t help, I get up, have a warm drink and then read a book.
c) When it happens, I go to my dentist as soon as I can. It is important not to waste time in this situation. I hate it when I have such problems but I know that the only person who can help me is my dentist.
d) I don’t eat anything for some time. I only drink strong sweet tea. If I’m very hungry, I may eat some porridge without milk but that’s all.
e) I take as much exercise as I can. I keep myself busy. It’s helpful to do some sport like swimming or running. I stop eating junk food and fast food too.
Step 4
Аудиозапись № 109 к заданию 1
What Is the Secret of a Long Life?
Why do many people live to a healthy old age in some parts of the world? Why are many people in these parts a hundred years old — or more? What is the secret of their long lives? Scientists say that three things are very important — fresh air, fresh food and a simple way of life.
Scientists know that a lot of people who are more than a hundred live in the mountains where the air is really fresh and clean. They work near their homes. They don’t have to travel far to work by bus, car or train. They do not sit all day in busy offices or factories. They usually work outside in the fields. They take more exercise and eat less food than people in the cities. They often grow themselves vegetables and fruit they eat. They grow them in good soil and eat very few sweet things. By the way they don’t cook their food for a long time.
So, people say, the secret of a long life is the following: “Eat less and live longer.”
Step 5

Step 6
Аудиозапись № 113 к заданию 2
Max and his grandfather are at home.
Grandpa: Now, Max, will you get up from the chair finally and take your heavy bag away?
Max: No, Grandpa. I mean, I can’t. I can’t move after my swimming classes. I have a backache, my legs hurt and I feel tired.
Grandpa: I didn’t know you did sports.
Max: That’s my doctor. He recommended me a swimming programme to fight my colds. He is sure swimming will do me a lot of good.
Grandpa: Very clever of him. It’s time for you to start. As a schoolboy I went to the swimming pool regularly and I was practically never ill. In fact I could swim before I went to school.
Max: Me too, Grandpa, you forget.
Grandpa: Oh yes, of course. So, your instructor didn’t send you to the beginner’s class, did he?
Max: No, he didn’t. And I was so proud of myself. I decided to show everybody how good I could be. But after the swimming class all my friends were all right and I felt tired. And now I feel tired and ache all over.
Grandpa: There, there, Max. You should lie down on the sofa for some time. And don’t you turn on television. I’ll make you a strong cup of tea and you’ll be better.
Step 7
Аудиозапись № 116 к заданию 1
1) — What’s the matter with you, Margaret?
— Oh, you know, I ate too much fruit salad yesterday and now I don’t really feel very well. I have a pain in the stomach. I think the salad was not very fresh.
2) — Hi, Andrew! Where are you going?
— To the doctor’s.
— What has happened?
— I’ve got a bad backache.
— How did you get it?
— I was carrying heavy boxes all the evening yesterday.
3) — Come in, Harry! What’s up this time?
— I don’t know, doctor. I feel some pain here. Is it the heart, doctor?
— Let me examine you. I’ll listen to your heart. I don’t think there is something seriously wrong with your heart. But you should sleep more, have a walk before going to bed and eat more vitamins.
4) — Oh, Linda, I think you are coming down with a cold.
— I think so too. I’ve got a headache, it hurts to swallow, I’m coughing and sneezing all the time.
— That’s too had. I think you should stay in bed for a day or two and drink hot milk with honey. Maybe you’ll recover soon then.
Step 8
Аудиозапись № 117 к заданию 1
Robin the Bobbin
Robin the Bobbin
the big-bellied Ben,
He ate more meat
than fourscore men;
He ate a cow,
he ate a calf,
He ate a butcher,
and a half,
He ate a church,
he ate a steeple,
He ate a priest
and all the people!
A cow and a calf,
An ox and a half,
A church and a steeple,
And all good people,
And yet he complained
that his stomach wasn’t full.
Step 9
Аудиозапись № 118 к заданию 1
Dr Gordon: Come in and sit down, Paul. What’s the matter with you? You don’t look your best today.
Paul: I’ve got a bad headache, doctor. I’ve been feeling bad since yesterday night.
Dr Gordon: Have you taken your temperature?
Paul: No, I haven’t. I never have a temperature.
Dr Gordon: Never say never, my boy. Let’s take it now. Here is a thermometer. Please tell me more. Are you sneezing or coughing? Is your nose running? Is there any pain in your heart or lungs?
Paul: No, doctor, I don’t think so. I just have this headache and it hurts me to swallow, just a little.
Dr Gordon: Will you open your mouth wide? I’d like to see your throat. I think you’re coming down with a cold, Paul. Now, let’s look at your temperature. Tut tut. What did I tell you? Never say never. Your temperature is 37.8. I’ll prescribe some medicine to bring it down. Ask one of your parents to get it for you.
Paul: Is it all, doctor?
Dr Gordon: Stay in bed, drink a lot of warm tea or milk, take the medicine I’ve prescribed and something for your headache. I’ll call tomorrow afternoon and examine you again.
Paul: Thank you for your time, Doctor.
Dr Gordon: Get well, Paul. I’ll see you tomorrow.
Step 10
Аудиозапись № 119 к заданию 1
Speaker 1. Mum, the doctor told me to stay indoors for some days. I should wear a scarf around my neck and drink a lot of warm milk with soda or sweet tea with lemon. I mustn’t speak a lot and if my temperature goes up, I should call a doctor and then he will prescribe some medicine.
Speaker 2. The doctor listened to my lungs. He didn’t like the way I breathed. He took my temperature and prescribed an antibiotic to bring it down. He said my temperature could be normal within 3—4 days. The doctor asked me to keep myself warm and to stay in bed for several days.
Speaker 3. The doctor said my temperature was not very high. He was sure I had a headache as well. And that was true. But these were not the main problems. My arms and legs, my stomach and my back were bright red. The doctor prescribed me some cream for my burnt body.
